My personal favorite is Futurama. I not only count it as my favorite sci-fi show, but also my favorite cartoon of all-time.
If I had to choose live-action, I'd go with Firefly. The evolution and quality of the characters is unparalleled. Also the jokes are funny and the action is exciting.
Both shows were mercilessly slaughtered before their time. Kudos to Fox for being cancel-happy morons.
