News - China's Girl Shortage

According to the BBC, China is suffering from a shortage of women. After implementing the one-child policy in the late 70s, the number of female children being brought to term has drastically decreased since most parents prefer to have a boy for a number of cultural reasons, which are now beginning to mean disaster for the nation.

The behavior of the few girls in China's school system has altered according to teachers, the girls are surrounded by boys and become more aggressive.

Chinese men, especially in rural areas, are learning to do domestic chores, traditionally the role of the woman, and have to step up to the plate in many areas to even have a chance at securing a wife. According to the article, "by 2020, there may be 30 million men of marriageable age who will not be able to find a wife."

We say, see where cultural misogyny gets you? It's going to take a huge cultural turnaround to fix this problem. Is NOW over there yet? If not, they should be.

PS. The suicide rate of women in China is still the highest in the world, one woman takes her life every four minutes. Chew on that.

PPS. We send a very heartfelt 'Stay Strong' to our sisters in China.
