Stardust - Trailer

In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.

We weren't certain whether or not Stardust would break our heart. We've dared to hope before when a new gorgeous trailer for a fantasy film premiered and we've been pretty bitterly disappointed. Not so this time.

We adored Stardust! The cast, which we had serious doubts about, was phenomenal. Sure, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro are amazing actors, and so are the others...but we've seen a lot of films that boasted an amazing cast and turned out to amazingly suck. But these two as well as the rest of the large cast, showed us the error of our presumption.

Members of the illustrious group included: Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, The Office's Ricky Gervais, Peter O'Toole, Ian McKellan narrating, Claire Danes, Rupert Everett and Sienna Miller.

DeNiro's effete Captain Shakespeare blew us out of the water, as did Pfeiffer's performance as the alternately youthful and aging witch queen. The newcomer, Charlie Cox, was delightfully sweet and genuine enough to make the relatively one-dimensional Tristan, endearing rather than annoying. We also loved Claire Danes' Yvain; she did an excellent job of portraying a being simultaneously eternal and youthfully innocent.

Stardust is an excellent film, one we plan on owning -- and one that is especially nice to see with the one you love.
