Film - "Incredible Hulk" Videos Leaked Online

Some intrepid folks in Toronto filmed the final battle scene from The Incredible Hulk and a whopping 23 other videos of the film's shooting. Find a link to them here.

It's not out until June but after the disaster that was the last Hulk movie, we're excited that the new cast looks totally promising. It's hard to beat: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth and William Hurt. We can't wait!

Oh yeah, and get this! Edward Norton actually wrote the screenplay for The Incredible Hulk himself! WTF? Check for yourself on IMDB. We totally approve. He says:

"I came into this and I wrote the screenplay. I was the Marvel kid. I had subscriptions to a lot of the marvel comics. I loved Hulk, the early incarnation of Hulk and then the television show when I was a kid."

We <3 him even more now that we know he's a writer!

John Rambo - Trailer *WARNING GRAPHIC*

John Rambo - Trailer - Red Band

Posted May 19, 2007

The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.

Man, we are such a tool. But god dammit, we love us some Rambo. This trailer is really violent so we hope (and expect) that it's been toned down for release in theatres.

We know the trailer's gotten mixed reviews but we think it's really well done and even intrigues us in a very Blood Diamond political way. (We will now be researching Burma.) And Stallone actually looks really good here, which totally surprised us. We think it's totally realistic for a bodybuilding, hard ass, war hero to be still hard core and a force to be reckoned with well into his 50s.

We are so going to be watching this in the theatre with our Dad.

PS. Some of our other gory favorites: Predator 1 & 2, Terminator 1 & 2, Rambo 1, 2 & 3, the Alien movies...

Film - New Indiana Jones Movie Has Kinda Dumb Name

Indiana Jones fans are torn but mostly down on the newest name for the fourth installment of the legendary trilogy as leaked by Shia LaBeouf (God, that name...) at the MTV VMAs this week.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sounds a lot like another popular franchise we've seen around lately (Harry Potter and the Whozit's Whatzit ring a bell?)

Sure, Indy did it first (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) but we've been inundated with Potter lately (much to our enjoyment) so it's on everyone's mind and heavily associated with children's literature and film.

We also like the frontrunner in the Indy name game as picked by fans: Indiana Jones and the City of Gods. It just sounds more epic and less object-based. But we like us an Indy flick and so if we must take the "Crystal Skull", then take it we shall.

So far, we like the idea of Beowulf himself, Ray Winstone, joining the cast but we're less enthusiastic about Cate Blanchett and Even Stevens' own, aforementioned LaBeouf. We'll miss Connery, of course. We dig the idea of Karen Allen reprising her amazing role as Marion Ravenwood though. Great name.

All said, we can't wait for the film, dumb title or not.

PS. This is an awesome photo.

Aaron Breaks Our Eckhart

Nooooo! We are extremely upset that one of our most favoritest actors, the amazing Aaron Eckhart, has chosen to be in a film being described by critics and audiences as "kiddie porn."

We are a huge supporter of child rights, and the glorification of child sexual exploitation goes against the grain of our very soul. :(

We freaked when we heard that Eckhart starred in Nothing is Private, a film about a child rapist by Alan Ball, the screenwriter of American Beauty. The actress in the film was 18 years old but playing a 13-year-old. We won't go into more details about specific scenes (the articles we've linked do that.)

We really liked American Beauty the first time we saw it when we were a teenager. But the creepy sexual scenes between Mena Suvari's high school character and Kevin Spacey's pervy Dad character left us really icked out. If this is the next step for Ball, making his underage sexual abusees younger and younger, we're sickened. Now, we totally mentally lump him in with gutter pervs Woody Allen and Roman Polanski.

We read a couple of reviews like this one. But we're super-interested to hear what Roger Ebert has to say about this film. We've read his review of Caligula and are expecting something starting along those lines, but we'll see. We're going to be monitoring this one because with the huge rise in child pornography (internet child porn - including live streaming video of molestation - is a multi-billion-dollar-a-year industry we are incredibly sad to report,) anyone who's aim is to desensitize the viewing audience to atrocities committed against children has our eternal hatred. (Reading the Fark comments about this movie was totally gross.)

The other big names attached to this film are: Toni Collette and Maria Bello.

PS. Apologies to Sam Mendes; we mixed up the name of the director of American Beauty with the screenwriter. Alan Ball wrote American Beauty and directed Nothing Is Private. We have corrected that error - thanks to Brij for pointing that out.

Questions - Captain America (2009)

Who do you think would be a good Captain America? Why?

We've been hearing strong rumors that it will be either "Two-Face" Aaron Eckhart (who we love) or Brad Pitt (who we also totally enjoy, and who hasn't ventured into the comic universe yet - Cool World doesn't count.)

We've also heard Val Kilmer, and non-Americans Hugh Jackman, Karl Urban, and Daniel Craig. We like all these guys but we admit to having a special fondness for Urban, a Kiwi who y'all may know from LOTR and who made frequent guest appearances on our favorite TV show back in the day, Xena: Warrior Princess.

We don't know if Hugh and Val should double dip though...it seems like one superhero per actor is a good idea. Plus, we've been digging when newcomers play the main characters like in Superman Returns.

PS. We're not quite sure but we're also hearing that it may be Torchwood star, gay British actor, John Barrowman.

PPS. As a strong supporter of gay rights, we we're pointing out the difference between Barrowman and the character, which is why we also mentioned that he was British. We mentioned the differing nationalities of the other actors rumored to be up for the role as well and have in other recent posts commented on the differences between comic book characters and the actors slated to play them (see race, haircolor, nationality.) Also, John Barrowman's sexual orientation has been made hugely public as of recently - specifically in relation to Captain America. Please keep comments relevant and educated or they will be deleted. Unlike other blogs, we don't cater to inapropriate or offensive comments just to get ratings.

PPPS. Has anyone ever seen Torchwood? While Barrowman is cute enough, the show boasts the worst plots/acting on television.

Questionable Casting: Comic Book Women

What's with all the main squeezes in comic book movies lately being fugly blondes with bad dye jobs? Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane in Superman Returns (Was she supposed to be 12?) Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane in Spider-Man (Mary Jane was supermodel in the comic...we're just saying.) And now, the queen of all fuglies - Gwenny Paltrow as the fiery-headed "Pepper" Potts in the upcoming Iron Man. (Are we the only one who realizes the name "Pepper" Potts connotes a redhead?)

We mean, they've been getting this wrong left and right...the Invisible Woman (Jessica Alba in the Fantastic Four films) was supposed to be as WASP-y as they come, and comic book Elektra (Jennifer Garner opposite Ben Affleck's Daredevil) is Greek. Why can't the studios seem to get it right when it comes to casting female comic book characters?

Chime in with your faves and misses. We've probably missed a bunch!

3:10 To Yuma - Trailer

http://view.break.com/315989 - Watch more free videos

We dig westerns and we dig Christian Bale -- so, when the two combine, it's a good day.

As far as imitating American Western accents go, we hope Bale and Russell Crowe's attempt won't be another disaster like Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan and Michael Wincott in Seraphim Falls. It could go either way. (Are all these paybacks for Kevin Costner not even attempting an English accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves all those years ago? We kinda think so.)

3:10 to Yuma premieres on September 7th.

Stardust - Trailer

Stardust - Trailer

Posted Apr 03, 2007

In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.

We weren't certain whether or not Stardust would break our heart. We've dared to hope before when a new gorgeous trailer for a fantasy film premiered and we've been pretty bitterly disappointed. Not so this time.

We adored Stardust! The cast, which we had serious doubts about, was phenomenal. Sure, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro are amazing actors, and so are the others...but we've seen a lot of films that boasted an amazing cast and turned out to amazingly suck. But these two as well as the rest of the large cast, showed us the error of our presumption.

Members of the illustrious group included: Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, The Office's Ricky Gervais, Peter O'Toole, Ian McKellan narrating, Claire Danes, Rupert Everett and Sienna Miller.

DeNiro's effete Captain Shakespeare blew us out of the water, as did Pfeiffer's performance as the alternately youthful and aging witch queen. The newcomer, Charlie Cox, was delightfully sweet and genuine enough to make the relatively one-dimensional Tristan, endearing rather than annoying. We also loved Claire Danes' Yvain; she did an excellent job of portraying a being simultaneously eternal and youthfully innocent.

Stardust is an excellent film, one we plan on owning -- and one that is especially nice to see with the one you love.

Halo 3: Live Action Short Film On MSN Video

Director Neill Blomkamp's live action short film version of Halo 3 is up and running on MSN video. The 1 1/2 minute clip is titled Combat: Part 1 so we can only assume that there will be more of these.

The film was like we imagine the game to be (we've seen it played on several occasions,) violent but not graphic, confusing and without plot. It seemed well-produced and was probably a fairly expensive undertaking. Meh. We are bored by this stuff. If you're not, enjoy!

Geekdom - Johnny Depp Vs. Ewan McGregor: Vying for the Nerd Girl's $...Er, Heart

Nerd girls, geek girls, whatever you call them, they are a major marketing group for the classic actor-cum-franchise, most recently and notably the marginal-actors-turned-blockbuster-stars, Johnny Depp and Ewan McGregor.

Admittedly, both men worked hard to first come to notice in worthy and notable roles but what goes conveniently unnoted by fan girls with these guys, unlike with actors who cater to regular audiences, is the aftermath of bad acting.

After his standout role in Trainspotting, Ewan produced a fair number of stinkers: Brassed Off, The Pillow Book, Down With Love, Miss Potter, (add your own favorites here.) Johnny too has occasionally stunk. He came to fame with an inspired performance as the lead role in Edward Scissorhands but after becoming Tim Burton's call boy, his discriminating taste seems to have dulled. Remember his corny sexy gypsy stereotype in Chocolat? His corny sexy gypsy stereotype in Don Juan DeMarco? His corny sexy gypsy stereotype in The Man Who Cried??? There are others we won't mention that are less easily provable. (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland -- okay, we lied; we'll mention them.) Even his excellent performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in the recent super-trilogy Pirates of the Carribean was hampered by a third film that seemed to want to ride more on the coattails of Depp's unsinkable appeal rather than have its own well-developed plot.

They, unlike other actors, can do no wrong in the geek girl community because everything they do (good or bad, there is precious little discerning taste in hardcore geekdom) translates to box office gold and more cold hard cash. Their acclaim, while once hard won and well-proven, rests now on their fan base rather than any recent performances; they can stink freely without fear of critical retaliation.

PS. Do a YouTube search on these two. The sheer number of campy tribute videos painstakingly and heart-achingly amateurishly produced on cheap digital cameras by glasses-wearing, tin-lunch-box-carrying geek girls is astounding. There are even a few honoring both actors and (like our featured jewel) inter splice Johnny and Ewan clips to an appropriately geeky power ballad. We kid you not.

Film - Movies We Love: In The Company Of Men

This movie is one of our favorites -- and that surprises us still (we first saw it a few years ago but it came out in '97.) Aaron Eckhart is the most devilishly...well, we won't ruin it but, man. Everyone we've ever talked to about this film has been wildly disturbed by it -- including us!

We highly, highly, highly suggest In The Company Of Men for the next time you're in the mood to question yourself.

Ang Lee's Latest To Be NC-17

Lust, Caution, Ang Lee's first film after the acclaimed Brokeback Mountain, has received an NC-17 rating from Hollywood censors.

The WWII era film, about a young woman in Japanese-occupied Shanghai who must seduce and kill a member of the opposing army, has lengthy and intensely graphic sex scenes. However, Lee and his collaborators are said to be set to accept the rating without contention.

The film debuts on September 28th. We'll see if it can override the lack of attention it will receive from many "newspapers and TV outlets [that] won't carry ads for NC-17 films."

We think of Mr. Lee as something akin to a cat...a cat who directs Oscar-winning movies. He'll always manage to land on his feet.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford - Trailer

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is set for release on October 5th and it looks good. It stars master of accents, Brad Pitt, as James -- a fine choice we think. It's about time Pitt played a real western role. (Legends of the Fall just isn't cowboy.)

Ben's little brother, Casey Affleck, plays the coward; and Oscar buzz is already building around the film's cinematography.

We're going to go see it with our dad. It seems like a Dad kind of movie.

And we love anything epic (well, not anything, but it helps.)

PS. Keep an eye out for that crazy playwright -- Sam Shepard -- as well.

G.I. Joe Movie A "G.I. Go"

Stephen Sommers, the director of two of our favorite campy action movies The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and Van Helsing, has signed on to direct the upcoming G.I. Joe movie.

It was only a matter of time and we think he's a great choice.

What 80s cartoon/toy franchise will they make a movie of next? We're a little sad that they've been mostly boy movies so far. We'd totally dig a She-Ra flick!

The Princess of Power is way overdue for her own film.

Shoot 'Em Up - Trailer

Is this for real? We're always stoked to hear about another movie with La Bellisima Bellucci but this latest seems like a joke. Here's the blurb from the official site:

"Clive Owen stars as Mr. Smith, a mysterious loner who teams up with an unlikely ally (Monica Bellucci) to protect a newborn baby from a determined criminal (Paul Giamatti) who hunts them throughout the bowels of the city."

The cast seems fine. We like Giamatti and Owen in some things, but protecting newborns with big guns is only the most cliche premise in history.

The images on the site are not kind to the aging-but-still-gorgeous Bellucci, the lighting plays up haggard a little too much but she is supposed to have just had a baby (a newborn baby who doesn't get Shaken Baby Syndrome or some other sickness from being held while its mother and a lone stranger run through the 'bowels of the city' -- a super-child really.)

PS. We just looked it up and Bellucci is not playing the mother of baby but rather a prostitute who lends a helping hand. So 'haggard' still applies.

PPS. Look for a freakish sex scene where The Dairy Queen (Bellucci), named because she caters to men's lactation/mommy fetish, copulates wildly and abandonedly in the midst of a heated shootout. This just sounds better and better. And classier. Way classier.

New Role For Radcliffe

Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe stars as Rudyard Kipling's son in My Boy Jack. The TV movie is due out on November 7th -- we expect it to do well. But beware -- it's about the famed author's search for his 17-year-old son who went MIA during the Battle of Loos -- we hear it will be a tearjerker.

PS. See more photos here.

McAvoy Is 'Scotty' in Star Trek Prequel

The Last King of Scotland's James McAvoy has been cast as 'Scotty' in upcoming Star Trek prequel. Great choice! We love this dude!

PS. He was the only character we liked in The Chronicles of Narnia too, Mr. Tumnus. And for you ubernerds, he was in Children of Dune.

Beowulf Looks Awesome

We can't wait to see Beowulf! We have a few reservations, only because we've been disappointed before, but if they pull this off 'muah!'

We totally dig the cast too! It comes out on November 16th, just in time for our birthday -- Happy Birthday to us!

You As A Pirate!

See what you would look like as a pirate on the website for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Simply upload your photo (front-facing, no funny business) and download the newly 3D-ized version of you, all ready for piratization. You can even speak the lines your favorite characters say in the film.We made a bunch of them. Total fun.

The Dark Knight - Production Stills

In these newly-released production stills from The Dark Knight, it looks as though Heath Ledger, who plays The Joker, may be the first actor to make out with both Gyllenhaal siblings. If James Spader would kiss Jake, he could be the second, since Maggie takes up where Katie Holmes thankfully left off.

We have high hopes for this second installment in the Batman Begins franchise. The stills look both awesome and scary!
